Kealan Patrick Burke: A Four Brains One Movie Interview

Dan and I had a wonderful time talking with Horror Writer Kealan Patrick Burke about his writing and lots of other kinda unrelated topics. Topics ranged from toilet sharks, elaborate shorts, death, Roman Polanski, poverty, writing stories about people in bars and other exciting things including the time I accidentally sanded off my fingernails while making a Van Halen key chain when I was a kid and how Dan Pullen may be a turtle murderer. Oh yeah, and we are all nothing but a ‘basket of hammers’.

Kealan is writing some of the best new Horror out there. We highly recommend his work.

My first experience reading the work of Kealan Patrick Burke was when I picked up (via Kindle that is) his brilliant and bloody redneck-freak-out ‘Kin’:

KIN by [Burke, Kealan Patrick]

That was about 3 years ago and since then I have read even more of his work and have found his characters and use of language both engaging and thought provoking. I would dig into it more here, but frankly, we are about to interview Kealan and I am sure we will be talking in depth about the joy his works brings my slightly damaged and undernourished psyche.

Kealan writes short stories, short novels and novels. Kealan is also active on Twitter and you should follow him:

here is a bit of an intro stolen from Kealan’s website (link below)

Born and raised in a small harbor town in the south of Ireland, Kealan Patrick Burke knew from an early age that he was going to be a writer. The combination of an ancient locale, a horror-loving mother, and a family of storytellers, made it inevitable that he would end up telling stories for a living. Since those formative years, he has written five novels, over a hundred short stories, six collections, and edited four acclaimed anthologies. In 2004, he was honored with the Bram Stoker Award for his novella The Turtle Boy.

Kealan has worked as a waiter, a drama teacher, a mapmaker, a security guard, an assembly-line worker, a salesman (for a day), a bartender, landscape gardener, vocalist in a grunge band, curriculum content editor, fiction editor at Gothic.net, and, most recently, a fraud investigator.

When not writing, Kealan designs book covers  through his company Elderlemon Design.

A number of his books have been optioned for film.
