(1987) the year the industrial band ‘COIL’ recorded a brilliant film score for Clive Barker’s ‘Hellraiser’ it was never used… but that hasn’t stopped me from fucking around – here is my ‘what if’ clip

Hellraiser, filmed in 1986. Had originally been conceived by Clive Barker with Coil in mind to perform the music for the film, but on insistence from producers the film was re-scored by Christopher Young. Young’s score is beloved by just about every Hellraiser fan I have ever spoken to, but most that are familiar with Coil’s work would have also, at the very least, liked to have seen a coiled scored version of the film. Considering, I thought it would be fun to get a small dose of what the film would be like with the coil track.

Below I have included a youtube link to the soundtracks, both Coil’s and Young’s, but before you get to that, here is my best effort to show what ‘could’ve been’…

THE ORIGINAL EDIT (Scored by Christopher Young):

MY WEE EDIT with the Coil score ( I only did about the first minute since I did this with a shitty video app that just about broke my phone:) ):

BELOW ARE THE SOUNDTRACKS THAT ARE LISTENABLE ON YOUTUBE – BOTH HOWEVER ARE WORTHY OF PURCHASE AND SHOULD BE ADDED TO ANY HORROR MOVIE LOVERS COLLECTION:

CHRISTOPHER YOUNG’S HELLRAISER SOUNDTRACK:

I originally discovered Coil shortly after they did this soundtrack… here is one of my favorite tunes of theirs from 1991 when they went through a short period of kind of danceable music):
